The Northern Governors’ Wives Forum has reaffirmed its determination to ensure the welfare of women, youth, and children across the northern states.

Chairperson of the Forum and Wife of the Gombe State Governor, Hajiya Asmau Inuwa Yahaya, stated this when she led other members of the forum on a courtesy visit to Governor Dauda Lawal at the Government House in Gusau.

Hajiya Asmau explained that they were in Zamfara State to hold their first quarterly meeting, stressing that, as mothers, they came with modest support for the people of the state.

According to her, their main focus is to support their husbands in governance while prioritizing the needs of women, young adults, and children across their respective states.

She disclosed that the delegation would empower at least 100 women during the visit, noting that even small interventions can have far-reaching impacts on families and communities.

“We hope to empower at least 100 people before we leave. Though it may seem small, the impact will go a long way,” she said.

In his remarks, Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, who welcomed the delegation, described their visit as timely and impactful.

Governor Lawal commended the initiative to empower women, emphasizing its multiplier effect on society.

“When you empower a woman, you empower the entire society. This gesture will not only affect the 100 beneficiaries but will have a ripple effect across communities,” he said.

The governor also highlighted the importance of collaboration in addressing the region’s challenges and urged the forum to continue offering valuable insights that can guide policy decisions.

“As mothers, you understand the challenges facing our children and communities. You are in a better position to advise us on how to tackle these issues. Your contributions can help shape better policies, especially in Northern Nigeria where collective action is essential,” he added.

Governor Lawal further stressed the need to shift the narrative about the region, noting that Northern Nigeria has vast agricultural potential capable of driving economic growth and ensuring food security.

“Northern Nigeria is not just about insecurity. We have fertile land and enormous agricultural potential. If properly harnessed, it can sustain us and reduce dependence on external resources,” he said.

The meeting is part of broader efforts by the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum to enhance social welfare, promote economic empowerment, and contribute to policy dialogue across the region.
