The administration of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, CON has awarded contracts to over 100 supporters and local contractors across Gombe State, in a move aimed at boosting grassroots empowerment and strengthening local capacity in project delivery.

The contracts, which are the second batch under the AGILE projects, are mainly on construction and rehabilitation of classrooms, public toilets and sanitary facilities in educational institutions across the state.

They are designed to improve hygiene standards in schools, especially for the girls, in line with the mandate of the Agile programme.

Beneficiaries were drawn from the three senatorial zones; Gombe North, Gombe Central and Gombe South; reflecting Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s commitment to inclusivity and balanced development.

Speaking during the engagement session, held in Gombe, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Development Partners Coordination, Dr. Ishiyaku Babayo, provided detailed guidance on the scope and expectations of the projects.

He emphasized the importance of adhering to quality standards, meeting delivery timelines, and ensuring accountability in the execution process.

Dr. Babayo noted that the success of the projects depends largely on the commitment of the contractors, urging them to see the opportunity not just as a contract, but as a responsibility to contribute meaningfully to the development of the state.

“This intervention is about improving the learning environment for our children, especially girls in line with the world bank funded Agile programme. We expect nothing short of quality and timely delivery,” he said.

Also present at the brief ceremony were the APC State Secretary, Abubakar Sadiq S. Goro, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on General Duties, Alhaji Sani Garba, among others.

In their separate remarks of appreciation, representatives of the beneficiaries from the three senatorial zones expressed gratitude to the state government for the opportunity, pledging to deliver on the projects in line with the agreed standards.

Mr. Silas Bukar Paris from Kaltungo in Gombe South described the gesture as a timely intervention that would enhance both livelihoods and community development.

From Gombe Central, Hon. Danladi Adamu of Akko LGA, commended Governor Inuwa for prioritising local contractors and rewarding his loyalists, noting that such efforts would stimulate economic growth at the grassroots level.

Similarly, Babayo Bulama from Dukku in Gombe North assured the government of the beneficiaries’ readiness to meet expectations, adding that the projects would be executed with diligence and professionalism.

Recall that Gombe State is in partnership with the World Bank-funded AGILE project to expand access to secondary education for adolescent girls.
