The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Chinedu Nnebeife, has said that the well – being of Personnel of the NA is a direct reflection of the Chief of Army Staff’s Command Philosophy. He made the assertion during a sensitization lecture delivered to personnel of 2 Division on NA Personnel Insurance Scheme (NAPIS) and other NA welfare schemes.

A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Polycarp Okoye , acting deputy director army public relations,2 division Nigerian army said the lecture took place at Headquarters (HQ) 2 Division NA on 5 May 2026.

While delivering a welcome address at the event, Major General Nnebeife, represented by the Chief of Staff (COS) HQ 2 Division, Brigadier General MI Falana, stated that the NA prioritises welfare of its personnel as a prerequisite towards attaining professional success. He further noted that the military profession is ladened with inherent risks, and administrative complexities; requiring a proactive approach to personal and family security. “NAPIS serves as a cornerstone of our institutional support system, acting as a shield for our personnel and a bridge of support for our next of kin”, the GOC said.

Speaking further at the event, the GOC, added that the benefits of the schemes can only be realized through proper enrolment, premium contributions, and claims procedures. He charged personnel to leverage on the opportunity provided by the schemes, and take up the responsibility of ensuring that vital records are kept and adequately updated. He thanked the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, NAM, for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of NA troops, and for providing the necessary resources to organize the sensitization in all NA formations across the country.

During his remarks, the Director General, NAPIS, Major General JE Osifo, who led the sensitization team, noted that the NA has several insurance schemes which are geared towards enhancing the well-being of its personnel and their families. He said the welfare schemes have several packages which are designed to cover personnel periods of service, retirement, and even in death. “If in the course of performing your constitutional duties, you sustain injury or die, you or your family are entitled to compensation in line with requirements of the relevant insurance scheme”, Major General Osifo told participants. He urged them to always ensure proper application to Appropriate Superior Authorities (ASA), in the event of injuries or misfortunes and the unit taking appropriate actions in the case of death; saying it is the only basis for paying necessary compensation.

The sensitization lecture simplified the numerous benefits of NAPIS, enumerating the requirements therein as well as providing guidelines on appropriate actions personnel should take when the need arises. Participants were given the opportunity to ask questions and clear their doubts.

The NAPIS team further visited soldiers on admission at the 2 Division Medical Services and Hospital (2 DMSH).

The sensitization lecture was well attended by formations and units Commanders, as well as officers and soldiers within 2 Division Area of Responsibility.
