The Zamfara State Police Command, in collaboration with local communities and joint security forces, has successfully repelled coordinated bandit attacks in Birnin Magaji and Bungudu Local Government Areas, neutralizing four bandits and recovering a motorcycle.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Yazid Abubakar, disclosed this in a statement issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, Gusau.

The PPRO noted that, on 25th June 2026, at about 11:30 a.m., armed bandits attacked farmers working on their farmlands on the outskirts of Nasarawa Godal Town in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area, opening fire indiscriminately to cause panic and inflict casualties. He explained that police personnel and courageous community members responded swiftly, engaging the attackers in a gun duel that forced them to flee into the forest with bloodstains along their escape route. Regrettably, three community members sustained gunshot injuries and were evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.

According to him, another group of armed bandits launched an attack at about 1:30 p.m. on the same day at Galmar Hannu Village in Kekun Waje District of Bungudu Local Government Area, shooting sporadically to kill or abduct innocent residents. Upon receiving the distress report, the Joint Security Forces of Operation Fansan Yamma (OPFY) stationed at Kekun Waje swiftly mobilized to the scene and engaged the criminals in a fierce gun battle. The superior firepower of the operatives led to the neutralization of four armed bandits, while several others escaped into nearby forests with gunshot wounds, leaving behind one motorcycle which was recovered at the scene.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, CP Ahmad Muhammad Bello, commended the bravery, resilience, and professionalism of the officers, as well as the courage and cooperation of the affected communities whose support contributed immensely to the success of the operations.

DSP Yazid said the Commissioner further urged members of the public to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, assuring residents that the Command remains resolute in denying criminal elements freedom of operation anywhere within Zamfara State through sustained collaboration and intelligence-led operations.
