The Nasarawa State Police Command wishes to inform the general public of the successful thwarting of a kidnapping attempt and the arrest of suspected kidnappers in Karu Local Government Area of the State.
On 31st April 2026, a complaint was received at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) regarding a threat issued by unidentified individuals demanding a ransom of five million naira, with threats to abduct an agro business woman and her children if the demand was not met.
A statement signed by the command public relations officer SP Ramhan Nansel said upon receipt of the report and in view of the urgency of the threat, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohamed, ordered a comprehensive investigation to prevent the criminals from carrying out the heinous act.
It said consequently, the Command launched an intelligence-driven operation which yielded positive results. Two suspects, Prince Eze, male, 19 years, and Marwan Salihu, male, 18 years, both of Agada Village in Karu LGA, were arrested in connection with the threat. Further investigation led to the arrest of Hassan Mathew Yerima, male, of Keffi, identified as the individual responsible for coordinating the collection of ransom on behalf of the syndicate.
The suspects are currently in police custody and are cooperating with investigators. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal network and ensure they are brought to justice.
