The Potiskum Local Government Council in Yobe has commended the North East Development Commission (NEDC) for its ongoing construction of two bridges in the area
The Council’s Chairman, Alhaji Salisu Mukhtari, made the commendation when the NEDC Coordinator, Prof Ali Abbas, inspected the projects on Monday.
Our correspondent reports that the bridges included the two span (40 metres) Mazaga bridge and the Tandari three span (40 metres) bridge.
The two critical bridges, if completed, will seamlessly connect adjoining communities of Lale, GRA, massaka, among others.
Mukhtari noted that the construction of the bridges would open up the areas and further link Potiskum with Nangere and even some parts of Bauchi state.
“ For donkey’s years we have been praying to have this project and to God be the glory, the NEDC is making our dream a reality.
“ The only thing to say is to thank Allah the Almighty for this project and to the NEDC for coming to the aid of our people,” he said.
The chairman also thanked the NEDC for constructing a one kilometre road leading to the famous Arikime Primary school , one of the largest primary schools in West Africa.
In his remarks, Abbas said the NEDC under the leadership of Dr Mohammed Alkali, collaborated with Gov Mai Mala Buni to deliver key infrastructure for the development of the state.
He expressed satisfaction with the level of work at the bridges sites, urging the contractors handling the projects to maintain the tempo and complete the projects in good time.
The coordinator said that, if completed, the bridges and adjoined roads will address perennial flooding bedevilling the areas.
Abbas stated that Arikime school was constructed by the NEDC and during its inauguration, Buni requested that the road leading to the school be tarred to enhance accessibility.
“ Therefore, we are happy to be here today to see that this one kilometre asphalt road with double drainage is completed and put to use,” he said.
