The President Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Dr Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu has called on members of the Association to remain united, uphold the highest standards of leadership and embrace continuous learning as essential pillars for advancing the welfare and empowerment of military families.
A statement signed by Captain Jemila JimohLiaison Officer Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association said she made the call during the National Executive Meeting and sensitization program held on 5 and 6 August 2026 where members from Chapters nationwide gathered to review the Association’s activities, deliberate on key issues and chart a strategic path for its continued growth and sustainability.
Delivering her opening remarks, Dr Safiyyah Shaibu described the National Executive Meeting as a vital platform for evaluating progress, addressing emerging challenges and developing practical strategies to strengthen the Association. She reaffirmed her vision of “building a United and Innovative NAOWA that would better empower military families through self-reliance and sustainable livelihoods,” while highlighting the remarkable achievements recorded since assuming office in the areas of education, healthcare, youth empowerment, humanitarian interventions, leadership development and sustainable livelihood initiatives.
She urged members to actively contribute meaningful ideas and participate fully in deliberations that would produce impactful resolutions capable of transforming the lives of military families. Building on the successful deliberations of the opening day, the President, in her charge on the second day of the meeting commended members for their commitment, thoughtful contributions and dedication to the growth of the Association.
She charged all Chapters to diligently implement the resolutions reached, stressing that leadership must be rooted in integrity, accountability and selfless service. Dr Safiyyah Shaibu reminded members that leadership positions are temporary and should be used to leave enduring legacies that inspire others. She further called on every Chapter to translate the resolutions reached into measurable programmes that would positively impact members and their communities.
The meeting also featured capacity-building and sensitisation sessions on the NAOWA Multipurpose Cooperative Society and Drug Prevention, Treatment and Care, facilitated by experts from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). Dr Safiyyah Shaibu noted that the sessions were designed to promote financial inclusion, economic empowerment and greater awareness of the dangers of drug abuse. She urged participants to replicate and share the knowledge gained in their respective Chapters to broaden the impact of the initiatives.
The President expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, Principal Staff Officers, Field and Theatre Commanders, General Officers Commanding, Corps Commanders, Formation Commanders and all NAOWA members for their unwavering support. She encouraged members to remain steadfast in their collective commitment to building a stronger, more innovative and impactful NAOWA that would continue to improve the lives of military families and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.
