The Speaker of the federal house of representatives,Dr Tajudeen Abbas has presided over plenary,in which the House of Representatives recorded significant milestones in ongoing efforts to strengthen democracy, deepen inclusion, and enhance national security.
At the sitting held on Thursday, the House passed the Constitution Alteration Bill on State Policing, a landmark legislative initiative designed to bring security closer to the people and equip our nation with more responsive mechanisms for addressing contemporary security challenges.
During the session Dr Tajudeen Abbas also formally announced Hon. Fred Agbedi as the new Minority Leader of the 10th House of Representatives.
He used the opportunity to congratulate him on his emergence and look forward to constructive engagement with the Minority Caucus as we continue to advance the legislative agenda of the House for the benefit of all Nigerians.
The Speaker maintained that,Parliament works best when leadership, dialogue, and purpose converge, saying that today’s proceedings reflected our shared resolve to build stronger institutions, foster national unity, and deliver meaningful outcomes for the people we serve.
Dr Tajudeen Abbas added that “Nigeria’s democratic journey is strengthened not only by the laws we pass but by the collective commitment to move our nation forward – together”.
