The President of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Dr kSafiyyah Hassan Shaibu on Saturday 18 April 2026, officially launched the Association’s Maiden Quarterly Sports Event at the Guards Brigade Indoor Sports Auditorium, Aguiyi Ironsi Cantonment, Abuja, under the theme “Healthy Women, Healthy Homes.”
A statement signed by Captain Jemila Jimoh LO Naowa said the vibrant and well-attended event marked a significant step in NAOWA’s drive to promote physical fitness, unity and overall wellbeing among its members and the wider military community. Participants from various formations actively took part in a range of indoor sporting activities aimed at fostering teamwork, healthy competition and social bonding.
In her remarks, Dr Shaibu highlighted the importance of the theme, stressing that the health of women directly impacts the strength and stability of their homes and communities. She noted that the initiative aligns with NAOWA’s vision of empowering women to live healthier and more balanced lives.
“Today’s event goes beyond sports. It reflects our commitment to nurturing healthy women who in turn, build healthy homes and stronger communities,” she stated.
She further expressed confidence that the quarterly sports event would become a sustained platform for promoting wellness, relaxation and unity among members of the Association.
The maiden edition featured activities such as aerobics, indoor games and friendly competitions, all carried out in an atmosphere of enthusiasm and inclusiveness. Participants commended the initiative, describing it as timely, refreshing and impactful.

Also in attendance were the President POWA, Mrs Olufunmilola Mutiat Disu, represented by Mrs Ada Ene Alonyenu, 41 RC Rubies, wives of PSOs of the Defence, Army, Navy and Airforce Headquarters, Coordinators, Chairpersons, wife of Commander MNJTF, wife of Theater Commander, wives of Senior officers,representatives from NAWC, members of DEPOWA, NAOWA, NOWA, NAFOWA, POWA and NASWA.
Highlights of the event were the medical checks, aerobics, general body exercises and group photographs.
