Troops of Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA recorded another significant operational success in Katsina State, neutralizing 2 terrorist commanders during an intelligence-led operation in Matazu Local Government Area.

This was contained in a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja,Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN Yamma made available to newsmen.

It said on 31 August 2026, troops of Sector 2 conducted a deliberate operation around Kogo Village, where notorious terrorist leader Kachalla Muhammadu Filani and members of his network were reported to be hiding. During the operation, troops encountered the terrorists and engaged them with a high volume of fire, resulting in the neutralization of 2 key commanders of the terrorist network.

The neutralized terrorists were identified as Hamisu, also known as MAMIYO, a notorious gunrunner and second-in-command to Kachalla Muhammadu Filani, and UMAR BOCHO, another key leader within the same terrorist network. Further information indicates that Muhammadu Filani escaped from the encounter with gunshot wounds as troops continued to exploit the area.

The successful operation represents a significant blow to Muhammadu Filani’s terrorist network, particularly with the elimination of key commanders involved in sustaining its criminal activities. The development is expected to further degrade the network’s operational capability and disrupt its activities within the area.

Members of the public, particularly medical personnel and residents in and around Matazu LGA, are urged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious individual seeking treatment for gunshot wounds to the nearest security agency.

Meanwhile, operations are ongoing to track the fleeing terrorist leader and clear the general area of any remaining threats.

Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA remain resolute in sustaining intelligence-led offensive operations across the Joint Operations Area to dismantle terrorist networks, deny criminal elements freedom of action and restore lasting peace and security to affected communities in the North West.
