The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Auwalu Mahmuda has charged participants of Advanced Defence Intelligence Officers Course 16/2026 to effectively utilize knowledge gained during their national study tour to proffer workable solutions to contemporary security challenges bedevilling the nation.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma Acting Deputy Director 2 Division Army Public Relations said he gave the charge at Headquarters 2 Division, while hosting the participants at Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan on 27 August 2026.
While welcoming the Commandant, Commodore Usman Mainasara Bugaje and his team, the GOC emphasised the importance of professional engagements in promoting knowledge sharing and enhancing understanding, particularly on contemporary security challenges. He further highlighted the security challenges within 2 Division‘s Area of Responsibility (AOR), which he said included kidnapping and other criminal activities.
The GOC commended the Commandant for the visit and the robust interaction that ensued during he interactive session, adding that it provided valuable insights into the challenges in the operating environment. He also stressed that the visit couldn’t have come at a better time than now, owing to the security situation in the Division’s AOR particularly around the Old Oyo National Park.
Earlier, the Commandant of Defence Intelligence College, Commodore Bugaje disclosed that the College has been in existence for over 25 years, stressing that the study tour is a mandatory requirement for the successful completion of the Course. He further underscored the importance of integrated intelligence in terms of peace and security. He appreciated the GOC and his commanders for their support and efforts that brought the study tour to fruition.
The programme featured an operational brief delivered by the Commanding Officer, Administrative Battalion, 2 Division Garrison, Lieutenant Colonel Jonathan Simon, who briefed the participants on the security environment in Oyo State and the operational activities conducted by the Division. The brief climaxed with an interactive session, where doubts were cleared.
