The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education (FUE), Zaria, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure, has congratulated three academics of the University who emerged among winners of the African Forum for Innovative Teachers (AFFIT) Research Grant Writing Programme, securing a research grant worth ₦10 million.
A statement signed by Sani Lawal Maqarphy, media aide to the VC, said the beneficiaries include Prof. R. S. Abdulrasheed, Dr. Nuru A. Asabe and Dr. Grace Benjamin Uyagu, were selected among 55 successful participants from over 2,000 contending academics from higher institutions across Nigeria at the Grand Finale of the National Women in Education Award and AFFIT Research Grant Writing Programme.
The Vice-Chancellor received the awardees during a visit by the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), FUE Zaria Branch, Dr. Sama’ila Ubale Alhaji, alongside the Branch Secretary, Dr. Mansir Hashim, and the Assistant Secretary, Dr. Ashiru Adam Kudan.
During the visit, Prof. Bunkure commended the recipients for bringing honour to the University, describing their success as a reflection of FUE Zaria’s growing culture of research excellence and academic innovation.
The Vice-Chancellor also congratulated Dr. Nuru A. Asabe for emerging winner of the Third Category of the National Women in Education Award, noting that their collective achievement further demonstrates the quality of scholarship within the University.
Prof. Bunkure also noted that even at the University Dr. Nuru has been a key player to the success of the TETFund Centre of Excellence for Technology Enhanced Learning (TeCETEL), where she serves as the Deputy Director.
Speaking on behalf of the Union, Dr. Mansir Hashim informed the Vice-Chancellor that five academics of the University participated in the programme and were inducted as AFFIT Research Fellows, including Prof. A. O. Bello, Prof. R. S. Abdulrasheed, Dr. Nuru A. Asabe, Dr. Grace Benjamin Uyagu and Dr. Rabi Bara’u.
According to the Branch Secretary, the participants were decorated with AFFIT Fellowship gowns and presented with Awards of Excellence during the induction ceremony.
Responding, Prof. Bunkure urged the beneficiaries to sustain their commitment to impactful research and scholarly excellence, expressing confidence that the University would continue to record greater achievements in national and international academic engagements.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Prof. A. O. Bello thanked the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for their encouragement, sponsorship and support, noting that the support contributed significantly to their success.
Also present during the reception were the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Suleiman Balarabe, and the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof.Kabir Haruna Danja.
