The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education (FUE), Zaria, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure, has unveiled the University’s Five-Year Strategic Plan (2025–2029), a comprehensive blueprint designed to lay a strong foundation, reposition the institution and provide a clear direction for its growth and development.

A statement signed by Sani Lawal Maqarphy media aide to the VC said the Strategic Plan was presented during its formal unveiling by the Chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee, Prof. Yakubu Magaji Azare from Bayero University Kano, on Tuesday, 8 July, 2026 at the TeCETEL, FUE Zaria.

Developed through extensive consultations with the University Management, staff, students and other stakeholders, the document outlines the University’s strategic priorities, implementation framework and performance indicators for the next five years.

Speaking at the unveiling, the Vice-Chancellor described the Strategic Plan as a product of the University’s collective vision and deliberate commitment to transformation.

Prof. Bunkure said the document was developed after a comprehensive assessment of the University’s strengths, challenges, opportunities and aspirations, adding that it provides clear objectives, implementation strategies, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and timelines for achieving the University’s goals.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that the Plan also incorporates a monitoring and evaluation framework to promote transparency, accountability and prudent utilisation of resources.

He expressed confidence that the document would strengthen the University’s capacity to respond to emerging trends in higher education while advancing its vision of becoming a globally recognised university renowned for excellence in teaching, research, innovation, entrepreneurship, character development and service to humanity.

Presenting the document, the Chairman of the Strategic Planning Committee, Prof. Yakubu Magaji Azare, said the Strategic Plan is built around nine strategic priorities that will guide the University’s development between 2025 and 2029.

Prof. Azare explained that the Plan seeks to transform FUE Zaria into a Smart University through the deployment of smart campus technologies, expanded digital infrastructure, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, cloud-based services, smart classrooms, Learning Management Systems (LMS), integrated digital governance platforms and strengthened cybersecurity architecture.

He said the document also prioritises academic excellence through curriculum review, improved accreditation, innovative teaching methods, quality assurance and staff capacity development, while promoting research and innovation through increased research funding, stronger industry partnerships, improved research infrastructure and the commercialisation of research outputs.

According to him, the Plan provides for the expansion and rehabilitation of physical infrastructure, improved healthcare and student support services, enhanced community engagement, strengthened institutional governance, environmental sustainability and the diversification of the University’s revenue base through improved Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), grants, commercial ventures and donor support.

Prof. Azare also presented the implementation framework, noting that the Strategic Plan provides measurable annual targets to facilitate effective monitoring, periodic evaluation and continuous improvement throughout the implementation period.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor commended members of the Strategic Planning Committee for producing what he described as a comprehensive and forward-looking document.

Prof. Bunkure particularly appreciated the Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Yakubu Magaji Azare, the Secretary, Dr. Fadele Ayotunde Alaba, and other members for their dedication and commitment throughout the assignment.

He expressed confidence that with the support of staff, students, alumni, government and development partners, the University would successfully implement the Strategic Plan and further strengthen its position as one of Nigeria’s leading universities of education.

Contributions and recommendations were given by Principal officers of the university, and other participants present atthe unveiling ceremony.,
