The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, has called for effective measures to curb examination malpractice among students.
A statement from the directorate of public affairs, office of the Vice Chancellor said Prof Ahmed made the call while declaring open a one day workshop on teaching and examination ethics organized by the Directorate of Academic Planning and Monitoring.
The workshop was in collaboration with Postgraduate College and Comittee of Deans and Directors.
He thanked all staff for their commitment and dedication in moving the university forward, pointing out that it was evident seeing ABU students excel in any endeavor.
The Vice-Chancellor said teaching is not just transfer of knowledge but also impacting the lives of those who come in contact with it.
While calling for minimal cases of exam malpractice by training students to shun the misconduct and showing them its negative impact on their lives, the vice-Chancellor also said examination should not be treated as a do or die affair.
He emphasized that Deans and Directors are pivotal as they serve as role models to staff and students.
Prof Ahmed urged all participants of the workshop to produce actionable solutions across the academic atmosphere by sharing experiences and proffering innovative ways to curb examination malpractice.
In a remark, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Raymond Bako, said the workshop was to strengthen teaching and learning in the university.
He said it was an avenue to reason together and come up with solutions to curb examination malpractice not a trap to catch or punish students.
“I hope the workshop will strengthen teaching processes and thereby improve the quality of degrees from the University”, he stressed.
Earlier in a welcome address, the Director Academic Planning and Monitoring, Prof Bello Mukhtar, commended the effort of university management and the Postgraduate College in conducting the workshop.
Prof Mukhtar said the workshop was an avenue to share experiences and thoughts and also come up with an adaptable blueprint to improve teaching and learning in line with world best practices.
The Chairperson, Committee of Deans and Directors, Prof Maryam Aminu, expressed delight that the workshop was finally taking place as it is at the forefront of the vice-Chancellor’s efforts of improving teaching and learning.
She commended the Vice-Chancellor for his inclusive ways of moving the university forward and called on all stakeholders to join hands together in moving the university to greater heights.
