The Zamfara State Police Command, through the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), has recorded another significant operational success in its ongoing efforts to combat banditry and other violent crimes across the state.

This was contained in a statement signed by the command public relations officer DSP Yazid Abubakar issued to newsmen.

It said on 20th June 2026, at about 0230hrs, operatives of the VCRU, in collaboration with military personnel, carried out a tactical operation at Gambanda Forest in Gumi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.

During the operation, the joint security team engaged armed bandits in a fierce gun duel. The superior firepower and tactical response of the operatives forced the criminals to flee into the forest with possible injuries, successfully repelling the attack.

As a result of the operation, the security team recovered 329 rustled cows, 175 sheep, one AK-47 rifle, and fifteen rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmad Muhammad Bello, psc+, mnips, commended the courage, professionalism, and resilience displayed by the operatives and reiterated the Command’s commitment to ending banditry and restoring lasting peace across Zamfara State.

The Command urges members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with timely and credible information that will aid ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.
