A sandstorm has blown off the roof of the Nigeria Union of Journalists secretariat in Damaturu.
The incident which occurred at about 8 pm on Monday, left air conditioners, fans and solar- powered equipment damaged.
In his remarks while assessing the damage, Comrade Rajab Mohammed, said the latest incident occurred when the NUJ leadership was repairing another section of the secretariat earlier destroyed by another windstorm on Sunday.
He said the matter had been reported to the state government with a view to attract support to rehabilitate the roof.
“ We are appealing to the state government to renovate this roof so that journalists can access the building to do their work.
“ The appeal becomes more necessary as we are approaching elections as such politicians usually rent our hall for political engagements,” he said.
