The Kaduna State gubernatorial candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rt. Hon. Isa Mohammed Ashiru, has assured teachers across the state of his commitment to implementing a comprehensive welfare package that will improve their working conditions, professional development and overall wellbeing if elected governor in 2027.
Ashiru gave the assurance in a statement to mark the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, celebrated globally on October 5, saying teachers remain indispensable to the development of human capital and the future of Kaduna State.

In the statement through his Spokesman, Abdulwaheed Olayinka Adubi, Ashiru applauded the World Teachers’ Day’s theme, “Standing with teachers: 60 years of protecting the profession, advancing its status and shaping our futures.”
He noted that the theme marks the 60th anniversary of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which sets standards for teachers’ rights, professional preparation, recruitment, employment and working conditions.
Ashiru said his administration would place the welfare and professional advancement of teachers at the centre of its education reform agenda, recognising that no meaningful transformation of the education sector can take place without motivated, adequately supported and professionally equipped teachers.
According to him, a government that genuinely values education must equally value those who teach, mentor and prepare children and young people for the future.
He said: “On this important occasion, I salute our teachers across Kaduna State for their dedication, sacrifice and commitment to educating our children, often under challenging circumstances.
“Teachers are the foundation upon which every successful education system is built. If we want better learning outcomes for our children, we must first create the conditions that enable our teachers to perform their duties effectively and with dignity.
“If given the opportunity to serve the people of Kaduna State, my administration will pursue a comprehensive teachers’ welfare programme that will include improved welfare packages, regular professional development, better working conditions, timely payment of legitimate entitlements and incentives that recognise outstanding performance.”

Ashiru further promised that his administration would strengthen continuous training and retraining programmes for teachers, while expanding opportunities for career progression and professional advancement.
He also emphasised the need to provide teachers with the necessary teaching materials, modern learning tools and conducive school environments, noting that teachers cannot be expected to deliver quality education where the conditions of service and learning remain inadequate.
The ADC candidate said his administration would maintain regular consultation with teachers and their representative bodies in the formulation and implementation of education policies, stressing that teachers must have a voice in decisions affecting their profession.
He added that special attention would be given to recognising exceptional teachers through appropriate awards and incentives, as part of efforts to restore dignity and pride to the teaching profession.
“Beyond salaries and allowances, teachers deserve respect, recognition, opportunities for professional growth and an environment where their voices are heard.
“We will therefore work with teachers, education stakeholders and relevant institutions to build an education system where the teacher is respected, motivated and adequately supported,” he said.
Ashiru congratulated teachers in Kaduna State and across Nigeria on the occasion, urging them to remain committed to their noble profession despite the challenges confronting the sector.
