In a major boost to infrastructure development, agricultural transformation and economic empowerment, the Yobe State Executive Council has approved projects and services worth ₦73.323 billion, reaffirming Governor Mai Mala Buni’s unwavering commitment to sustainable development and improved living standards across the state.
A statement signed by Yusuf Ali Focal Person, Digital and Strategic Communications said the approvals were made during the State Executive Council meeting held on Thursday at the Council Chamber, Government House, Damaturu, under the chairmanship of Governor Mai Mala Buni CON.
In his opening remarks, Governor Buni commended members of the State Executive Council for their dedication to effective service delivery, urging them to remain focused on implementing the administration’s socio-economic development agenda for the benefit of the people.
Addressing journalists after the meeting, the government announced that the Council considered and approved a series of strategic projects designed to stimulate economic growth, strengthen infrastructure, expand agricultural productivity and improve the welfare of citizens.
A major highlight of the approvals is the allocation of ₦28.531 billion for the procurement of agricultural tools and implements under the 2026 Mega Agricultural Empowerment Programme, building on the successes of similar interventions executed in 2024 and 2025 to enhance food production and strengthen farmers’ capacity across Yobe State.
The Council also approved ₦4.939 billion for the construction of the Buni-Yadi Modern Motor Park and Grains Market, while ₦5.688 billion was approved for external facilities and augmentation of the perimeter fence at the Damaturu Modern Motor Park, which is nearing completion.
To further stimulate commercial activities, the Executive Council approved ₦3.945 billion for the construction of a modern shopping mall and mini-market in Buni-Gari, Gujba Local Government Area.
In the housing sector, the Council ratified ₦1.177 billion for the construction of the Ministry of Housing Headquarters and ₦2.248 billion for the purchase of 208 housing units from the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. It also approved ₦616.61 million for the upgrading, remodelling and beautification of four major roundabouts in Damaturu, alongside ₦726.09 million for additional works on the ongoing Damaturu Mega Shopping Mall.
The Council equally approved ₦652.63 million for the acquisition of Fanzar Mixed Farms Limited, a move expected to strengthen agricultural investment and production in the state.
As part of its inclusive empowerment programmes, the Executive Council approved ₦460.83 million for the procurement of beans to be distributed to women-owned small businesses across the state. The beans will be distributed together with cooking oil, smokeless stoves, cooking utensils and other kitchen items already procured by the Ministry of Wealth Creation, Empowerment and Employment Generation.
Additionally, the Council approved ₦364.48 million for the procurement of 1,000 Yamaha GX390 grinding machines to support economic empowerment and improve livelihoods across the state.
In the transport and infrastructure sector, the Executive Council approved ₦23.975 billion for two strategic road projects, including the rehabilitation and asphalt overlay of the 45-kilometre Kalallawa–Kaliyari Road spanning Damaturu and Tarmuwa Local Government Areas, as well as the construction of the 7-kilometre Damagum–Gubana Road, completing road access to Gubana from Damagum.
The Council also approved a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement for the redevelopment of the Yobe State Liaison Office in Kaduna into a modern hotel under a Build-Operate-and-Transfer (BOT) model. The arrangement ensures that ownership of the facility will revert to the Yobe State Government after ten years, while the liaison office will continue to operate within the complex.
The approvals further underscore Governor Mai Mala Buni’s determination to deepen infrastructure development, expand economic opportunities, promote food security, empower citizens and sustain the momentum of transformational governance across Yobe State.
