Yobe youths kick against Sen Lawan’s nomination form buying

Youths in Yobe State have condemned the action of a handful of their peers who were recently said to have purchased the governorship nomination form for former Senate President, Ahmed Lawan saying “he does not deserve it.”

Many youths cutting across the state including those from Zone C which Lawan currently represents at the National Assembly wondered what what the senator did to the state or its people in his many years of being a federal lawmaker that impacted on either his constituents or the state.

Senator Ahmed Lawan representing Zone C comprising Bade, Jakusko, Karasuwa, Nguru, Machina and Yusufari has been in the National Assembly since 1999 rising to become the Senate President from June 11, 2019 to June 11, 2023.

Expressing strong reservations against the purchase of nomination form through the contribution of a reported N188 million by those referred as ‘Ahmed Lawan boys,’ Abdullahi Mohammed Almajir, a strong youth political analyst/commentator noted that none of the contributors has what it takes to make such commitment.

“I can assure you that the whole money came directly from Senator Lawan himself only for them to draw up a list claiming they gathered the amount which is not even up to the cost of the car that Lawan’s son drives.”

While challenging them showed Lawan’s achievements even in one of his local government constituencies, Almajir noted that if it was really thei money, they should have used it to provide clean drinking water by sinking boreholes in the area which seriously suffers from waterborne diseases including irredeemable blindness and terminal kidney diseases.

Also speaking, a Damaturu based youth leader, Mustapha Musa drew the attention of the youths not to allow themselves be used by no performing politicians who only give them money during elections and disappear completely till another election cycle.

He said “as the 2027 general elections approach, we must rate the performance of all those seeking elective positions especially, the governorship with a view to bringing the best, one who has always shared concerns to the growth and development of the state without sectional, political or religious considerations.”

As the political space in Yobe gathers momentum, many youths, women groups, associations, the elderly and political class are currently trying to chart a new course to the state by bringing someone in the best position to carry on with the good legacies of past leaders especially the ones put in place by governor Mai Mala Buni who will be leaving office next having completed his constitutional two terms
