The Chief of Accounts and Budget (CAB), Army, Major General Taofik Temitope Sidick, has charged Finance Officers and Clerks to continually update their knowledge and adapt to emerging trends in the financial sector to remain effective. He made the call while declaring open the 2 Division Finance and Accounts Training Week, themed “Enhancing Professional Finance Management through Digitalization and International Public Sector Accounting Standards Compliance in 2 Division Finance and Accounts,” at Adekunle Fajuyi Cantonment, Ibadan, on 8 July 2026.

This was contained in a statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma acting deputy director army public relations 2 division Nigerian army made available to newsmen.

It said Major General Sidick said that as personnel of the Nigerian Army Finance Corps (NAFC), their responsibilities extend beyond processing payments and maintaining accounts. He described them as advisers to commanders, custodians of public resources, and critical enablers of operational effectiveness, noting that the quality of their work directly impacts financial discipline, the timely payment of personnel entitlements, troops’ morale, and the overall readiness of the Nigerian Army. He added that the financial management landscape is evolving rapidly, driven by digital technologies, increasing regulatory requirements, and the demand for greater transparency, accountability, and efficient service delivery. He therefore stressed the need for continuous investment in knowledge, professionalism, and innovation.

The CAB(A) also appreciated the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, for his unwavering support for the continuous professional development of NAFC personnel, noting that the initiative has strengthened the Corps’ institutional capacity and administrative effectiveness.

In his goodwill message, the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, Major General Chinedu Ralph Nnebeife, represented by the Commander, 52 Signal Brigade, Brigadier General Danlami Ali, described the Training Week as a valuable platform for officers, soldiers, and civilian personnel of the NAFC to exchange ideas on contemporary financial administration. The GOC said the initiative aligns with the COAS Command Philosophy, which identified Robust Administration as a cardinal pillar that underscores efficient resource management and sound institutional processes in support of operational effectiveness.

Earlier, the Acting Commander, 2 Division Finance and Accounts, Colonel Susan Okolo, said the programme was designed to update personnel’s knowledge, strengthen their professional competence, and enhance service delivery in line with global best practices. She expressed confidence that the knowledge gained would further improve the delivery of efficient, accountable, and technology-driven financial services in support of operational effectiveness.

Participants at the Training Week were drawn from Nigerian Army formations and units within the 2 Division Area of Responsibility. The programme featured a series of lectures by subject matter experts, who emphasized the importance of practicing the profession in line with globally accepted standards.
