In its sustained efforts to curb the proliferation of illegal firearms and ammunition across the state, the Zamfara State Police Command has recorded another significant operational breakthrough.
This was contained in a statement signed by the command public relations officer DSP Yazid Abubakar issued to newsmen.
It said on 27th July 2026, at about 6:00 hrs, a joint security team comprising personnel of the Police, the Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and members of the Community Protection Guard (CPG), while conducting stop-and-search operations along Anka–Bagega Road in Anka Local Government Area, intercepted a Volkswagen Golf III vehicle with registration number Kogi MPA 92 AA.
The statement said the vehicle was driven by Abubakar Rilwanu, a male resident of Bagega in the Anka Local Government Area. During a thorough search of the vehicle, the security team recovered fifty-five (55) rounds of live AK-47 ammunition concealed inside a polythene bag.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the ammunition belonged to Rabiu Mohammed, a male passenger from Jambako, Maradun Local Government Area. The suspect confessed that he had collected the ammunition from Dodori Village in Gwandu Local Government Area of Kebbi State and was transporting it for delivery to one Oliya, who is currently at large.
Both suspects have been arrested and are currently undergoing preliminary investigation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and dismantle the criminal network.
The Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, CP A. M Bello, PSC+, mnips, reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to combating the illegal proliferation of arms and ammunition. He urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information that will assist ongoing efforts to protect lives and property and ensure the safety and security of all residents of the state.
