The Zamfara State Police Command has recorded another operational success in its sustained offensive against banditry, following the rescue of four kidnapped victims during a swift response by operatives of the Command’s Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU).
This was contained in a statement signed by the command public relations officer DSP Yazid Abubakar made available to newsmen.
It said on 3rd August 2026, at about 5:00 p.m., operatives attached to the VCRU, acting on credible intelligence, responded to a distress report that a large number of heavily armed bandits had blocked the Mafara–Anka Road near Mai-Kwanugga Village and abducted commuters returning from the Mafara Market to Anka.
The statement said upon receipt of the report, the operatives swiftly mobilized to the scene, pursued the fleeing bandits, and engaged them in a fierce gun battle. Overwhelmed by the superior firepower and tactical response of the security team, the bandits fled into a nearby forest with suspected gunshot wounds, abandoning their captives.
The operation resulted in the successful rescue of four kidnapped victims, namely:
– Sani Abubakar
– Basiru Muhammed
– Jabiru Musa
– Jubril Muhammed
All the rescued victims are male residents of Anka Local Government Area. They have since been reunited with their families.
The Commissioner of Police, Zamfara State Command, CP A.M Bello, PSC+, MNIPS, urges members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies, as community support remains vital to the success of ongoing security operations.
