Bindura University of Science Education, Zimbabwe is seeking a partnership with Ahmadu Bello University to help develop its infant glass and silicate technology programme.
A statement from the public affairs directorate office of the VC said a two-member delegation from the Southern African university led by its Vice-Chancellor, Prof Eddie Mwenge, was in ABU last week to discuss the partnership.
Mwenge was first at the office of the Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, when they arrived at the Nigeria’s premier institution for a courtesy call.
The visiting Vice-Chancellor was in company of Mr. Daniel Chihombori, an Assistant Director, in the Vice
Chancellor Office, Bindura University of Science Education, Zimbabwe.
Prof Mwenge said glass and silicate technology project was among the series of high-impact innovation and industrialization initiatives being run by the Zimbabwean university.
The Vice-Chancellor of the Zimbabwean university, who also stated that the programme is still in its infancy, said they were delighted that ABU is a leader in glass and silicate technology.
He told the ABU Vice- Chancellor that they would want to benchmark and share experiences with the Nigerian university on the area.
Bindura University of Science Education, according to him, is one of Zimbabwe’s fastest growing and leading higher education institutions.
He also said the university had to date carved its niche as Zimbabwe’s best university in the areas of science, innovation technology and industrialization.
Prof Mwenge appreciated ABU Vice-Chancellor for his kind assistance in identifying other institutions in Nigeria that offer the same curricula for them to visit.
Mwenge also expressed gratitude to the Management of Ahmadu Bello University for the warm reception accorded them.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, said the university was excited when they indicated intention of coming to ABU.
Ahmed, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof Bello Sabo, said he was impressed with the academic achievements of the Southern African university.
He said the Zimbabwean university is worth collaborating with given its achievements in so short a period.
The Vice-Chancellor also stressed the importance of collaboration, saying that universities could no longer exist without partnership.
He described Prof Mwenge’s visit as timely and pledged ABU’s support towards the success of their glass and silicate technology programme.
Prof Ahmed also said they could not thank the visiting Vice-Chancellor enough for recognizing ABU for the partnership.
Those present during the courtesy call included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Raymond B Bako; and Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Advancement, Research and Innovation, Prof Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi.
Others were Ag. University Librarian, Dr Abubakar Mohammed Abdullahi; Director, Academic Planning and Monitoring, Prof Bello Mukhtar; Ag. Director, Human Resource, Malam Yakubu A Anivbassa; and Deputy Bursar, Finance, Malam Ibrahim Salisu.
