Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has congratulated Hajiya Hadiza Mohammed Aliyu on her recent appointment as the first female Editor-in-Chief of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Hadiza Aliyu, who hails from Borno State, is the first woman to head the editorial team of one of the premier news agencies on the African continent since its establishment more than 40 years ago.

She is a graduate of Mass Communication from the University of Maiduguri.

In a statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media, Dauda Iliya, Zulum described the new Editor-in-Chief as a disciplined, committed and top-tier career news editor who has served the Agency for more than three decades.

“On behalf of the government and people of Borno State, I wish to congratulate Hadiza Mohammed Aliyu on her appointment as the first female Editor-in-Chief of the News Agency of Nigeria,” Zulum said.

“I received the news of your elevation as Head of the entire editorial team of more than 500 editors and reporters spread across the Agency’s offices nationwide and its 18 districts with much excitement,” he added.

Zulum urged the Editor-in-Chief to continue upholding the editorial standards that have made the Agency a reliable source of news, and to keep countering false information, misinformation, disinformation and hate speech as the country heads into the campaign period.

He wished her a successful tenure in office as she steers the affairs of the Agency.
