Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has called on the private sector and philanthropic individuals to invest more in the education sector to complement the government’s efforts at rebuilding the state after years of insurgency.

Governor Zulum made the call during the commissioning of Noble Scholars Nursery and Primary School, established by an indigenous daughter of Borno State, Hajiya Yakaka Bukar Mandara, in Maiduguri.

The Governor described the establishment of the school as a commendable initiative that aligns with the state’s commitment to expanding access to quality education.

“In the 21st century, it is no longer sustainable for government alone to shoulder the responsibility of providing educational institutions without the active support and partnership of the private sector,” Zulum said.

“This type of private school built in the suburbs of Maiduguri town, I believe this will ensure the growth and development of education in Borno State.”

Governor Zulum congratulated the proprietress for what he described as a remarkable achievement, noting that her investment in education is an investment in the future of the state’s children and the overall development of society.

“On behalf of the government and good people of Borno State, I want to congratulate the proprietress, who has done very well. InshaAllah, this school will impact positively on the lives of the people of Borno State. It is my singular honor and privilege to commission this Noble Scholars Nursery and Primary School to the glory of God and to the benefit of mankind,” he added.

The Governor expressed confidence that the school would make a lasting contribution to educational development in the state by providing quality learning opportunities and nurturing future leaders.

Speaking earlier, the proprietress of the school, Hajiya Yakaka Bukar Mandara, said the vision behind establishing Noble Scholars School was to create an institution where children could receive both Western and Islamic education under one roof.

“The private sector needs to complement the effort of the government. Because people will say, oh, schools, like this school is as nice as the ones in Abuja. Why won’t we have it in Maiduguri? So I felt like Maiduguri should also have schools to also complement the mega schools that we have, so that quality education will be affordable and accessible to everyone,” Yakaka stated.

She expressed appreciation to Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for honouring the occasion and officially commissioning Noble Scholars School.

Governor Zulum was accompanied by the member representing Marte/Monguno/Nganzai Federal Constituency, Hon. Bukar Talba; the Acting Chief of Staff to the Governor, Dr. Babagana Mustapha Malumbe; commissioners, special advisers, and other senior government officials.
