The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander, Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP), Major General Maxwell Dangana, has reaffirmed the critical role of the Army Headquarters Department of Personnel Management in enhancing the effectiveness of the Nigerian Army through sound personnel policies and transparent career administration.

A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olumide Victor Olukoya, Acting Deputy Director Army Public Relations 3 Division Nigerian Army said the GOC made the reaffirmation while delivering his welcome address at a one-day sensitisation lecture on Career Planning and Management of Nigerian Army Soldiers, held at the Headquarters 3 Division Auditorium, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos.

Major General Dangana noted that the Department of Personnel Management remains strategic to the Nigerian Army’s growth through effective personnel policies, transparent career management, postings, promotions, appointments, welfare initiatives, and succession planning. According to him, programmes of this nature provide an avenue to clarify policies, dispel misconceptions, strengthen confidence in personnel administration, and encourage soldiers to take greater responsibility for their professional growth.

He further stressed that investing in personnel is fundamental to sustaining operational success and advancing the vision of the Chief of Army Staff. The GOC also commended the Chief of Army Staff for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to personnel development and institutional excellence.

In his opening remarks, the Chief of Personnel Management (Army), Major General AA Adekeye, expressed appreciation to the GOC for hosting the sensitisation programme, describing it as the first of its kind in Headquarters 3 Division and a significant step towards improving personnel understanding of the Department’s responsibilities.

Major General Adekeye explained that although the Department of Personnel Management is one of the youngest departments in the Nigerian Army under its current structure, it performs one of the Service’s oldest and most vital administrative functions. He said the Department is responsible for personnel administration, career management, postings, promotions, documentation, retirement, and discharge of soldiers.

The Chief of Personnel Management also cautioned personnel against submitting false reports, urging commanders at all levels to discourage such practices. He explained that the lecture was designed to equip soldiers with the knowledge required to effectively manage their careers and encouraged them to embrace career development while upholding the core values of the Nigerian Army.

The event featured a lecture on “Career Planning and Management of Nigerian Army Soldiers,” a robust interactive session, presentation of souvenirs and a group photograph.
