In line with the directive of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division Nigerian Army, Major General AA Babalola, the 75 Supply and Transport Brigade has successfully conducted a series of Fire Prevention and Safety Awareness and Safety Campaign for units and formations within the 81 Division Area of Responsibility (AOR), aimed at strengthening fire outbreak prevention measures and promoting a robust fire safety culture within military barracks and installations.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya Acting Deputy’ director army public relations,81 division Nigerian Army said the awareness campaign exercise commenced at 65 Battalion on Tuesday, 17 March 2026 and was subsequently held at 9 Brigade on Monday, 30 March 2026 as well as Headquarters 81 Division Garrison on Wednesday, 1 April 2026.
Other units visited during the exercise included 149 Battalion on Thursday, 9 April 2026, 243 Battalion on Tuesday, 28 April 2026, and 174 Battalion on Tuesday, 12 May 2026.
Speaking during the lectures, the Acting Commander 75 Supply and Transport Brigade, Colonel IM Akosim, represented by the Commanding Officer 750 Supply and Transport Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel HE Ugbaifo, described fire as “a good servant but a dangerous master,” while emphasizing the importance of strict adherence to established fire safety measures at all times.
He stressed that fire prevention and control should not be viewed as the sole responsibility of Supply and Transport Corps personnel, noting that effective fire safety requires the collective commitment, vigilance, and cooperation of officers, soldiers, their families, and all residents within military barracks.
Colonel Akosim further underscored the importance of proactive fire safety practices, stating that the protection of lives, equipment, infrastructure, and operational assets remains a shared responsibility across all units and formations within the Division’s AOR.
The lectures featured presentations on critical fire safety topics, including fire prevention measures, early fire detection, emergency evacuation procedures, and the proper handling and use of fire extinguishers to effectively contain and mitigate fire outbreaks.
The exercise was conducted in collaboration with personnel of the Federal Fire Service, Ojuelegba, Lagos, whose practical demonstrations further enriched the campaign and enhanced participants’ understanding of fire emergency response procedures.
The awareness campaign exercise concluded with group photographs at the various locations visited.
