Ahmadu Bello University has always regarded public service as part of its historic mandate in addition to contributing immensely to building Nigeria’s administrative capacity, according to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed.
A statement from the public affairs directorate office of the VC said Prof Ahmed spoke when he led a management team on a courtesy visit to the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs Didi Esther Walson-Jack, OON, in Abuja today, Tuesday, 4th August, 2026.
He said generations of officers serving in Federal, State, and Local Governments, particularly across Northern Nigeria, had through ABU Institute of Administration received the education and professional training that enabled them to provide effective public leadership.
“It is a legacy we are proud of, and we remain committed to strengthening the effort”, he stressed.
The university, according to him, invested significantly in modern teaching and learning infrastructure.
“Through strategic partnerships with K-MAX and CreateView, two leading Chinese high-technology companies, we have established smart classrooms and deployed virtual reality technologies that are transforming teaching, professional training and skills development”, he said.
Prof Ahmed also said the investments reflected ABU’s determination to prepare graduates and professionals for the digital economy and the emerging world of artificial intelligence.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to the head of the civil service for granting them audience.
He said the university appreciated the transformation agenda she had championed within the federal civil service.
He also said her commitment to building a technology-drivenm, innovation-oriented, and globally competitive civil service had inspired confidence across the public sector.
According to him, the university was particularly encouraged by her emphasis on digital transformation, technology-enabled public service delivery and the use of digital learning platforms to continuously equip civil servants with the competencies required for the future of work.
The Vice-Chancellor said the university looked forward to building a lasting partnership with the Office of Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.
Responding, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and members of his entourage for the visit.
She highlighted the various efforts of the federal government towards digitalising Nigeria’s civil service operations.
Mrs Walson-Jack urged the university to always notify her office whenever the university is organising training conferences beneficial to civil servants for participation.
The visit was rounded off with presentation of souvenirs and group photographs.
The Registrar, Rabiu Samaila; Director, ABU Distance Learning Centre, Prof M B Mu’azu; and Director, Public Affairs, Auwalu Umar accompanied the Vice-Chancellor.
Others were the ABU Liaison Officer, Abuja, Malam Haruna Ajo, Deputy Registrar, Public Affairs, Mr. Ingino Danjuma Voh; and Principal Technical Officer, Photography, Malam Tajuddeen Kamaluddeen Usman.
