The Executive Chairman of Zaria Local Government Council, Engr. Jamil Ahmad Muhammad Jaga, who is currently outside the country, has expressed his profound shock and heartfelt condolences over the tragic death of the renowned Islamic scholar, Khalifa Ghali, describing the incident as a deeply painful and monumental loss to the Muslim Ummah.
In a statement signed by Galadima Ishaq Chief Press Secretary Office of the Chairman Zaria Local Government Council said the Chairman extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the late Sheikh’s numerous students and followers across Nigeria and beyond, His Highness the Emir of Zazzau, Amb. Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, CFR, and the entire Zazzau community.
The late Khalifa Ghali, a prominent Islamic scholar and Khalifa of Sheikh Yahuza Zaria, passed away on Thursday, 20th August 2026, in a tragic road accident while travelling to attend a Maulud event in Zuntu. The unfortunate accident also claimed the lives of his son, Mallam Sukairaju; Sheikh Ibrahim Raiyahi; and his grandson, Dr. Muhammad Suraj.
Engr. Jaga described the death of the late Sheikh, who passed away in his eighties, as a monumental loss to the Muslim Ummah, particularly the Zazzau Emirate and the wider Islamic scholarly community. He noted that Khalifa Ghali was a respected pillar of Islamic scholarship whose lifelong dedication to the teaching and propagation of Islam touched the lives of countless people in Nigeria and beyond.
The Chairman also extended his deepest sympathies to His Highness the Emir of Zazzau, the late Sheikh’s family, students and followers across the country and beyond, as well as the entire Zazzau community, praying that Allah (SWT) grants everyone affected by the loss the strength, patience and fortitude to bear the tragedy.
The Janaza prayer for the late Khalifa Sheikh Ghali Sheikh Yahuza, alongside his family members and four other deceased persons, was led by the Chief Imam of Zazzau, Malam Dalhatu Kasim Imam, shortly after the Jumu’at prayer at the Zazzau Palace Jumu’at Mosque. The funeral prayer was attended by members of the community who gathered to offer their final prayers for the departed souls and bid them farewell.
Engr. Jaga further prayed that Allah (SWT) forgive the shortcomings of the late Khalifa Ghali and all those who lost their lives in the unfortunate accident, grant them Al-Jannatul Firdaus, and reward them abundantly for their contributions to Islam and humanity.
The Chairman urged the Muslim community, particularly the students and followers of the late Sheikh, to continue praying for him and to preserve the noble Islamic legacy he left behind.
May Allah (SWT) grant Khalifa Ghali, his family members and all the victims eternal rest in Al-Jannatul Firdaus, and grant their families, students, followers and the entire Muslim Ummah Sabr and fortitude. Ameen.
