Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has recorded a significant milestone in global university rankings, emerging as the highest-ranked Nigerian federal university in the 2026 UI GreenMetric Ranking and the third-ranked best public university in the 2027 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
The latest results further position ABU as the only Nigerian public university to feature among the top four institutions in both ranking exercises, underscoring the University’s sustained presence across different dimensions of global university performance.
In the THE World University Rankings 2027, ABU is ranked 4th among Nigerian universities, placing it within the 1,001–1,200 global ranking band. ABU is consequently the third-highest-ranked public university
The ranking places particular emphasis on five broad areas of university performance: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry and International Outlook.
ABU’s Strong Showing Across THE Performance Indicators
