    ABU hosts orientation for foreign trained pharmacists

    Ahmadu Bello University is hosting a six weeks accreditation and orientation for foreign trained pharmacists.

    The Director, Education and Training, Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN), Dr Anthony Idoko, disclosed this when he called on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, in his office in Zaria.

    Dr Idoko was accompanied by Pharm Olabisi Obisesan Coordinator, North-West Zonal Office;Pharm Fatima Piyo, State Coordinator, Kaduna; and Pharm Ogochukwu Okechukwu, Education and Training Department.

    According to him, the orientation would be for a period of six weeks.

    He explained that the purpose was to train the students on how pharmacy is practiced in Nigeria.

    Idoko also said such areas as pharmacy jurisprudence and tropical diseases are not common in other countries hence the need to familiarise the students with it.

    He appreciated the University Management for accepting to host the programme and for providing a serene environment for the students.

    According to him, this was the second time the university is hosting the training programme.

    The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, said the university was always willing to help in building the capacity of professionals.

    Ahmed, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof Bello Sabo, said the training became necessary as it would bridge the gap between learning and practice.

    The Vice-Chancellor also said the training would provide direction for the students.

    Prof Ahmed further stressed that the university was proud of its Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria for their efforts and contribution to the society at large.

    He assured of the University Management’s support for the programme to achieve the purpose for which it was introduced.

    The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Advancement, Research and Innovation, Prof Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi, and the Dean of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Prof Mohammed Garba Magaji, were present at the courtesy call.

    Others included Assistant Dean of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Dr Shuaibu Aliyu; Faculty Exams Officer, Pharm Yahaya Aliyu; and Head Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Dr Salisu Awwalu.

    Other staff members from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, including Dr Aishatu Shehu and Pharm Fauziyya Yusha’u Muhammad, were also there.
