Ahmadu Bello University is always taking its own responsibilities with utmost seriousness for the advancement of knowledge and the improvement of human capital.
A statement from the public affairs directorate office of the VC said the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, disclosed this at a workshop held at ACENPEE, ABU, Zaria, on Monday, 8th June, 2026.
The workshop, themed ‘Emerging Challenges of Pedagogical Practices in Higher Education: The Role of Technology’, was organised by the TETFUND Centre of Excellence in Pedagogy (TeCEP).
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof Bello Sabo, the Vice-Chancellor said the theme of the workshop could not have come at a more opportuned time.
He said TeCEP was formally established at ABU in 2024 with a clear mandate to strengthen teaching quality, promote pedagogical research, as well as enhance curriculum delivery, innovative, and learner-centred educational practices.
He said the Centre was brought into existence with the support and funding of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), whose continued commitment to quality education in Nigeria remains highly commendable.
The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed the university’s unwavering commitment to supporting initiatives that advance the quality of teaching and learning in the university.
Earlier in a welcome address, the Director of TeCEP, Prof F O Anafi, said the Centre was established to increase the enrollment of students into PhD, MSc and short term courses.
Anafi said it was also to improve the quality of education through national and international accreditation, research and learning and also serves as educational engine room.
The Director thanked the Vice-Chancellor and the University Management for their unwavering support towards the success of the workshop.
In a keynote speech, Prof A O Eberemu identified reduced human interaction and students well being, assessment and academic integrity and interactive and engaging learning as some of the emerging challenges in pedagogical practices.
Eberemu noted that investing in digital infrastructure and internet access, providing continuous professional development for educators and promoting digital literacy among students are some of the strategies for effective integration of technology.
The keynote speaker appreciated all the participants and wished them successful deliberations in subsequent sessions.
There were presentations on Characteristics and Guiding Principles Underlying the Choice of Pedagogy in Tertiary Institutions by Prof Suleiman Ismaila and another on Strategies for Syllabus and Course Design for Effective Programme Delivery by Prof Suleiman Ismaila and Prof A A Dada all of the Faculty of Education.
The event was attended by Deans, Directors, Heads of Department, professors, senior teaching and non-teaching staff and students.
