By Umar Dankano, Yola.
A political movement under the auspices “Adamawa Forward Political Organizatio n’ has urged Former Vice president Atiku Abubakar to come out and clear his name in the alleged plot to substitute the African Democratic Congress ADC gov’ship candidate, Ambassador Omar Suleiman Omarana in Adamawa state.
The group while staging a peaceful protest against the alleged sinister move to replace Ambassador Omarana as ADC ‘s governorship flag bearer asked Atiku to clear the air on the issue advising that failure to do so can be detrimental to his presidential ambition from his home state (Adamawa).
Recall that the Party (ADC) has been experiencing internal wranglings over the party leadership and governorship candidacy for a while now as despite the emergence of Omarana as the party’s flag bearer through party primary for the forthcoming 2027 gov’ship election, but still some bigwigs are not comfortable with him and want him changed.
Spokesman and Secretary of the group, Hon. Joshua Buba while addressing the demonstrators at the ADC state Secretariat in Yola on Monday said that the group felt uncomfortable with the unconfirmed claim that, Ambassador Omarana who was democratically elected to be the ADC flag bearer will be substituted by some interests in the party.
Buba explained further that, the people in African Democratic Congress ADC are disturbed with the development urging on the leadership and stakeholders of the party to intervene in making sure that the right thing is done in fairness and justice.
Buba who accused some politicians leaving in Abuja for deliberately causing confusion for the party’s flag bearer in allegedly trying to replace with someone called on the presidential candidate former Vice president Atiku Abubakar to do the needful for peace to rain.
“What we are hearing is that, some people are currently at the party’s headquarters in Abuja making frantic efforts to substitute Omarana with one, Hamman Tukur.
“But what we want them to understand is that,we will resist any attempt to enforce any one on us because our insiders at the national Secretariat alerting is that those bargaining for the change are alleged to offer monetary inducement to get their way
“They should also know that, what they are trying to do will be a catastrophic for the party with the 2027 election at hand, so we advise extra caution should be taken in handling the situation in the interest of all”.Buba warned.
Also speaking on the issue, State Public Relations Officer,PRO of the movement, Abdulaziz Mohammed alias “Goje Maiha” expressed displeasure with the situation saying that as Adamawa electorate, they will not allow such ugly occurrence in the state.
Mohammed appeal to former Vice president Atiku Abubakar to come out and disassociate himself with the uproar because someone is calling his name telling people that he ordered the move for the alleged substitution which have negative consequences on his ambition and the party as a whole.
“Honestly what is happening is absurd and unfortunate because our bigwigs are said to be part of the plot .In fact some body is bragging about that it was the former Vice president Atiku Abubakar who ordered Omarana to be replaced.
“We call on our presidential candidate former Vice president Atiku Abubakar to come out and distance him self with such undemocratic moves which can affect his chances in the 2027 polls”. Mohammed highlighted.
Efforts to speak to the ADC party chairman in the state, Barrister Ibrahim Sadiq Dasin was unsuccessful as calls put to his phone were not answered and not returned like wise the spokesman for former Vice president Atiku Abubakar, Mr.Mazi Paul Ibe’s was unreachable at the time of filing in this report.
But a stalwart of the party in Adamawa state, Hon.Hyellagiziya Naiwa described the protest as democracy in action where concerned party members are expressing their right.
Hon.Naiwa who is a former treasurer and a candidate for the Michika/Madagali federal constuency in the 2027 election said that, what happened in Yola on her opinion was nothing more than the beauty of democracy even though it was a rumor not even factual claim.
Naiwa stressed that during the party primary conducted in the state on the 26th May 2026, the party members voted for their guber-candidate (Omarana) with 143,000 votes to emerged the 2027 governorship flag bearer through direct primary in Yola but Abuja, therefore the wish of the people must be given its rightful place.
She applauded the quick response to such rumors which send their message to the right quarters for necessary action to be taken noting that voices of the demonstrators must be accorded the necessary action considering the task ahead of the party in 2027 general elections.
She therefore called on the national leadership and stakeholders to come in with a view to addressing the avoidable utterances by some elements trying to cause confusion among supporters of the party.
