Ahmadu Bello University, ABU Zaria, has set aside three thousand tree seedlings for distribution to communities as part of efforts to encourage the tree planting campaign.
The Chancellor of the University, Professor Adamu Ahmed, stated this during the commemoration of World Environment Day, a symposium, and the tree planting campaign held in Zaria.
The Vice-Chancellor, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Profesñsor Bello Sabo, said the management has already taken measures to establish an Environmental Unit to handle the university’s environmental issues.*
In an address, the Chairman of the occasion and Chairman of the Kaduna State Local Government Service Board, Professor Aminu Ladan Sharehu, noted that environmental issues are a collective responsibility.
Professor Aminu Ladan Sharehu said the Local Government Service Board and all 23 Local Government Areas would remain committed to partnering with stakeholders to protect the environment and sustain lives and the economy.
The Chairman of the Kaduna State Local Government Service Board explained that planting trees is an investment for a safe and sustainable tomorrow, and for improving socio-economic development.
The theme of this year’s World Environment Day is “Inspired by Nature: Ecosystem Restoration for a Resilient, Adaptable and Sustainable Microclimate in ABU.
This year’s World Environment Day was witnessed by stakeholders in environmental affairs, including the Kaduna State Ministry of Environment and the State Project Coordinator of ACReSAL,among others.
