The Zone 6 Headquarters, Calabar, today, 3rd August 2026, formally welcomed Assistant Inspector General of Police Rashid Bello Afegbua, PSC, mnips, mspsp, who has assumed duty as the 34th Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 6.
A statement signed by DSP Jefferson Osupe, Zonal Public Relations Officer Zone 6 Headquarters, Calabar said AIG Rashid Bello Afegbua is a lawyer and an accomplished police officer with over three decades of meritorious service in the Nigeria Police Force. He holds a Bachelor of Science (ED) in Economics from the then Bendel State University, Ekpoma (now Ambrose Alli University), a Bachelor of Laws (LL.B Hons.) from the University of Calabar, and a Barrister-at-Law (B.L.) qualification from the Nigerian Law School, Bwari, Abuja.
Born on 22nd August 1968 into the renowned Afegbua Royal Family of Okpella, Edo State, he was appointed into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in 1992 after successfully completing the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme in Cross River State.
Throughout his illustrious career, AIG Afegbua has distinguished himself in operational policing, administration, intelligence-led policing, and the deployment of technology-driven policing strategies. His vast experience has seen him serve in several strategic operational and command positions across the country, where he consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership, professionalism, and dedication to duty. Enduring commitment to professionalism and institutional renewal in line with the transformative leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, remains his carrier objectives.
Prior to his deployment to Zone 6 Headquarters, Calabar, he served as the Commissioner of Police, Department of Training, Force Headquarters, Abuja, where he coordinated key capacity-building programmes and championed critical police reform initiatives. He also previously served with distinction as the Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command.

He is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Member of Society for Peace and Practice (SPSP), Member Institute of Corporate Administration (ICAD) and remains deeply committed to professionalism, institutional development, and the ongoing reforms of the Nigeria Police Force in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.
The new Assistant Inspector General of Police is expected to provide strategic leadership in strengthening security, enhancing inter-agency collaboration, promoting community policing, and ensuring effective policing across the states under Zone 6.
