……..Agency Pledges Sustained Sensitisation Programmes as University Reaffirms Commitment to a Drug-Free Campus*
The Zaria Area Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), led by its Area Commander, Deputy Commander Ahmed Bello, has paid a courtesy visit to the Federal University of Education, Zaria (FUE Zaria), to strengthen the existing collaboration between the Agency and the University.
This was contained in a statement from the Directorate of information and Protocol of the university issued to newsmen.
Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Kabir Haruna Danja, welcomed the visitors and commended the NDLEA for its continuous efforts in combating drug abuse and promoting a healthy society. He also appreciated the cordial relationship between the Agency and the University.
Speaking during the visit, Deputy Commander Ahmed Bello, who recently assumed duty as the Area Commander of the NDLEA Zaria Area Command, said the visit was aimed at fostering stronger institutional cooperation in the fight against drug abuse.
He urged the University’s Management and the Directorate of Security Services to remain vigilant in addressing the menace of drug abuse within the campus community. He further assured the University of the Agency’s readiness to organise regular sensitisation and awareness programmes for students to discourage substance abuse and promote responsible living.
Responding, Prof. Danja expressed gratitude to the NDLEA for the visit and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to maintaining a drug-free learning environment. He added that the Management looks forward to sustained collaboration and more sensitisation lectures for students.
Also speaking, the Director of Security Services, Mal. Halilu Hassan, stated that the Directorate has continued to work diligently to ensure a safe and drug-free campus. He noted that the University regularly organises drug abuse awareness programmes, during which experts are invited to educate students on the dangers and consequences of substance abuse.
Also in attendance are the Registrar, Mal. Shehu Sa’idu Iya; the Bursar, Alhaji Mohammed Kabir Aliyu; the Director of ICT, Dr. Fadale; the Deputy Director, Directorate of Information and Protocol, Mal. Usman Ladan; and an NDLEA official,Aminu Ibrahim.
