    CHAIRPERSON 8 DIVISION NAOWA VISITS 1 BRIGADE, COMMISSIONS COMPUTER CLASS ROOM, EXTENDS WELFARE SUPPORT TO WIDOWS AND HOSPITALISED PATIENTS AT NIGERIAN ARMY CANTONMENT GUSAU

    The Chairperson, 8 Division Chapter of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Mrs Chenelo Iweora Koughna, paid a courtesy visit to the Commander 1 Brigade Nigerian Army, Brigadier General M Jimoh, at Headquarters 1 Brigade, Gusau.

    A statement signed by Yusuf Mohammed  Acting Assistant Director Army Public Relations,1 Brigade Nigerian Army Gusau said during the visit, the Commander commended NAOWA for its commitment to the welfare of military families, particularly its educational and empowerment initiatives.

    In her response, Mrs Koughna reaffirmed the Association’s dedication to the vision of the National President of NAOWA, which focuses on empowering women and children through education, welfare and self-reliance programmes across military communities.

    As part of her visit on 23 July 2026, Mrs Koughna commissioned a newly remodelled and equipped Computer Class Room at the 1 Brigade NAOWA Nursery and Primary School, Nigerian Army Cantonment, Gusau. She described the project as a strategic investment in the future of children of Nigerian Army personnel, noting that early exposure to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) would equip pupils with essential digital skills.

    In continuation of her humanitarian engagements, the Chairperson 8 Division NAOWA visited patients at the 1 Brigade Medical Reception Station (MRS), where she interacted with and encouraged the sick. She also presented bags of rice, cooking oil, wrappers and cash donations in envelopes to 6 Widows within the barracks community, reaffirming NAOWA’s commitment to the welfare of military families.

    Mrs Chenelo commended the Coordinator, NAOWA 1 Brigade Chapter, Mrs Rahmat Mustapha Jimoh and members of the chapter for successfully executing the projects. She also appreciated the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu and Brigadier General M Jimoh for their unwavering support to NAOWA activities.

    Earlier, Mrs Rahmat Mustapha Jimoh described the projects as significant milestones in improving educational infrastructure and promoting the welfare of military families. She disclosed that the computer class room was designed to accommodate about 10 pupils for practical learning.

    The visit featured the commissioning and inspection of the computer class room, a visit to patients at the 1 Brigade Medical Reception Station, presentation of welfare items to widows, presentation of souvenirs and group photographs. The two-day visit culminated in a dinner hosted in honour of the Chairperson, 8 Division NAOWA Chapter, Mrs Chenelo Iweora Koughna, marking the successful conclusion of her engagement with the 1 Brigade NAOWA Chapter.
