The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu NAM, has commended the Department of Army Transformation and Innovation (DATI) for organising a one-day sensitization seminar on Lessons Learned, Feedback Mechanism, Drug and Substance Abuse, and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Management for troops of Headquarters 4 Brigade, the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport (NASST), and the Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (NASEME) in Benin City.
A statement signed by Captain Kennedy Anyawu, Assistant Director Army Public Relations , 4 Brigade Nigerian Army Benin city said the COAS gave the commendation while delivering his opening remarks during the seminar held on Wednesday, 15 July 2026, at the Muhammadu Buhari Auditorium, Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, Benin City. He appreciated DATI for integrating lessons learned from joint operations into the Nigerian Army’s tactical planning process, noting that the seminar forms part of ongoing efforts to equip troops with the knowledge and tools required to effectively navigate the volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous security environment in which they operate.
Represented by the Commandant, Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, Major General Adebayo Adegbite, the COAS stated that the seminar was designed to reawaken critical thinking among junior commanders and enhance their decision-making abilities. He further noted that the programme would create greater awareness on the prevention and management of drug and substance abuse as well as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, thereby contributing to improved operational effectiveness and personnel well-being.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chief of Transformation and Innovation (Army), Major General Peter Okoye, represented by the Deputy Chief of Transformation and Innovation, Major General Ime Bassey, stated that the seminar was organised to enhance troops’ capacity to identify, extract, collate, analyse, and apply operational lessons in order to avoid past mistakes while improving the Nigerian Army’s tactical planning process, particularly in operations within the South-South region. He added that the seminar also sought to improve the psychological resilience and behavioural disposition of personnel in response to the demands of military operations. He expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff for his visionary leadership, unwavering support, and provision of the necessary resources to facilitate the successful conduct of the seminar.
The seminar featured lectures on “The Nigerian Army Lessons Learned Process and Feedback Mechanism,” delivered by Lieutenant Colonel Peter Chileh; “The Effect of Drug and Substance Abuse on Nigerian Army Operational Effectiveness,” delivered by the Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Edo State Command, Commander Mitchell Ofoyeju, PhD; and “The Effect of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder on Nigerian Army Operational Effectiveness,” delivered by Lieutenant Colonel Susan Dibal (Rtd).
The seminar concluded with the presentation of souvenirs to the guest lecturers, moderators, discussants and a group photograph to commemorate the event.
