Growth doesn’t happen by chance. It happens when lawmakers and job creators stay at the same table- Speaker Abbas

The Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, RT HON Dr Tajudeen Abbas has proposed the establishment of the National Assembly and Business Executive Roundtable (NABER) – a permanent platform that will bring Parliament, the organised private sector, labour, and development partners together to shape evidence-based economic reforms.

He made the proposal, at the Legislative Business Breakfast during the 3rd National Assembly Open Week, in Abuja.

He explained that Nigeria cannot afford a situation where laws are made in isolation from the realities of businesses and investors.

According to him, the world’s leading economies have shown that sustained dialogue between legislators and the productive sector leads to stronger policies, greater investor confidence, and faster economic growth. We must embrace the same approach.

Dr Tajudeen Abbas maintained that NABER will institutionalised this engagement through biannual meetings to review the business environment, monitor reform implementation, identify investment bottlenecks early, and develop a shared pro-growth legislative agenda.

He maintained that it will also ensure that our laws are informed by data, guided by evidence, and responsive to the needs of Nigerians.

The Speaker affirmed that the House of Representatives remains fully committed to supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda through legislation that promotes regulatory certainty, lowers the cost of doing business, expands access to finance, strengthens local industries, and enhances Nigeria’s competitiveness.

“Our resolve is clear: a Parliament that listens, a Parliament that partners, and a Parliament that legislates for prosperity. Together, we will build an economy where enterprise thrives, investment flourishes, and every Nigerian has a fair opportunity to succeed” he said.
