The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s unwavering commitment to its constitutional mandate through strengthened operational capability, enhanced troop welfare and efficient infrastructure delivery across formations and units nationwide.
The COAS made this known at the opening of the Nigerian Army Project Management Workshop held at the Nigerian Army School of Military Engineering, where he stressed that effective project execution remains a strategic enabler for combat readiness and sustained operational success. He was represented by the Force Commander, Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara.
The COAS stated that the workshop was designed to sharpen the capacity of project officers and align project management processes with global best practices in order to improve accountability, quality delivery and timely execution of critical Army projects. He reiterated his command philosophy of building a professional, resilient, adaptable and combat-ready Nigerian Army capable of operating effectively within a joint and multi-agency environment in fulfilment of its constitutional responsibilities.
Lieutenant General Shaibu further emphasised that personnel welfare remains central to operational effectiveness, noting that the Nigerian Army has continued to prioritise the construction and rehabilitation of accommodation, operational facilities, medical infrastructure, training institutions and office complexes across the country. According to him, strategic planning, prudent resource management and efficient project supervision are critical to sustaining the Service’s ongoing transformation and infrastructure development drive.
The COAS also expressed appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his continued support to the Nigerian Army. He observed that recent operational gains against terrorism, banditry and other security threats have been significantly bolstered by improved troop welfare, enhanced logistics support and sustained investment in operational capabilities.
Earlier, the Commander, Corps of Engineers, Major General Shamsideen Sharafu, represented by the Commandant NASME, Major General Essien Ekpenyong, stated that the workshop was aimed at deepening the professional competence of Army Engineers in engineering construction and project management.
Also speaking, the Coordinator, Nigerian Army Special Projects, Major General Bayo Adetoro, disclosed that the workshop, themed “Optimising Quality Project Delivery in the Nigerian Army through Comprehensive Planning, Effective Cost Management and Timely Execution,” would leverage the expertise of seasoned professionals and project management specialists to strengthen institutional capacity for strategic infrastructure delivery
