In a deliberate effort to enhance the welfare of personnel and their families in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s (COAS) Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu’s Soldiers First Culture, the Commander 9 Brigade, Brigadier General Ayokunle Olufemi Owolabi, has refurbished a Steyr refuse disposal truck to improve environmental sanitation within TA Lagbaja Cantonment, Lagos.

The refurbished Steyr refuse disposal truck will significantly enhance the timely evacuation and disposal of refuse across the cantonment, thereby promoting a cleaner, healthier and safer environment for personnel, their families and other residents.

A statement signed by Major Akinola Ajibola Assistant Director Army Public RelationsHeadquarters 9 Brigade Nigerian Army said the initiative is expected to strengthen environmental sanitation while contributing to improved public health within the cantonment.

The refurbishment of this critical support vehicle is aimed at implementing the vision of the COAS, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, whose Soldiers First Culture places the welfare of soldiers and their families at the centre of the Nigerian Army’s transformation agenda. The initiative recognises that a healthy, motivated and well supported soldier is better positioned to achieve operational success and effectively discharge constitutional responsibilities.

The Commander reaffirmed that the welfare of troops remains a command priority, noting that investments in sanitation and other welfare initiatives directly contribute to higher morale, improved readiness and enhanced operational effectiveness.

This initiative reflects the unwavering commitment of Headquarters 9 Brigade to supporting the COAS’ vision by providing an enabling environment where soldiers and their families can live and work in dignity while remaining prepared to accomplish assigned missions.
