The Commander Armoured Corps, Major General Umar Abubakar has pledged to deepen collaboration with Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) in Research and Development and specialized training, while reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s commitment to the protection of lives and property around the university community.

Major General Abubakar made the pledge on Friday, 7 August 2026, when the Vice Chancellor of ATBU, Professor Ibrahim Hassan Garba and members of the University’s Administrative Board paid him a courtesy visit at the Headquarters, Nigerian Army Armoured Corps, Obienu Barracks, Bauchi.
Describing the visit as timely, the Commander said the partnership with ATBU will focus on joint research projects, innovation in military technology and capacity building for troops. He noted that the Corps is prioritizing Research and Development to enhance the operational effectiveness of armoured platforms, vehicle maintenance, robotics, drone technology and simulation-based training as well as workshops, seminars and Research and Development with ATBU’s faculties of Engineering, Science and Technology.
Speaking earlier, the Vice Chancellor said the visit was to appreciate the Commander and troops of the Nigerian Army for their swift intervention that foiled armed robbery attempt at the university’s female hostel. He commended the prompt deployment of security personnel which has restored calm on the campus. He praised the professionalism and responsiveness of the Nigerian Army.
The visit featured the signing of Visitors’ Book, presentation of souvenirs and group photograph.
Present were the Deputy Vice Chancellor Academics, Professor Dani Usman, Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Professor Ahmed Sarki, Acting Chief of Staff, HQ NAAC, Colonel HB Haruna, Colonel CU Okeke, Colonel SA Bello among other senior officers and university officials
