As part of efforts to strengthen synergy between the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps and academic institutions in Bauchi State, the Commander Armoured Corps, Major General Umar Abubakar on Tuesday, 2 June, 2026 paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor, Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Gubi Campus, Professor Ibrahim Hassan Garba.
A statement signed by Major vA A Adekunle acting deputy director army public relations headquarters Nigerian army armoured Corps said the visit was aimed at fostering collaboration between the Nigerian Army Armoured Corps and educational institutions to promote national development, innovation and security.
While delivering his remarks, Major General Abubakar commended the Vice Chancellor for ATBU’s contribution to the professional development of Armoured Corps officers, soldiers and their families through higher education. He said he was committed to taking the relationship between the Corps and the University to a higher level.
The Commander added that the Armoured Corps is focused to promote Research and Development, advancing innovation and willing to explore areas of mutual interest for possible cooperation with the institution.
In his response, Professor Garba welcomed the Commander and described the visit as a significant step toward deepening Civil-Military Relations. He appreciated the Nigerian Army in Bauchi State for its commitment to providing security within the State and assured the University’s readiness to collaborate in areas that would benefit both institutions. He also expressed confidence in the Commander’s leadership in advancing the Armoured Corps and improving security in the State.
The Vice Chancellor drew attention to ATBU’s Centre for Embedded Artificial Intelligence and Smart Energy Systems, recommending practical applications of AI in Armoured Corps operations and training.
The visit featured discussions on potential areas of partnership, exchange of souvenirs, signing of visitors’ books, and a group photograph.
