The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division Nigerian Army and Commander, Operation ENDURING PEACE (OPEP) Major General Folusho Oyinlola has charged officers and soldiers of the Division to become more conversant with the policies and guidelines that govern the actions and decisions of the Nigerian Army as a disciplined and professional force.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Olumide Victor Olukoya Acting Deputy’ director army public relations,3 division Nigerian army said the GOC gave the charge at the Headquarters 3 Division Auditorium, Maxwell Khobe Cantonment, Jos while delivering his welcome address at a one-day sensitisation and awareness workshop organised by the Army Headquarters Department of Army Policy and Plans.
Represented by the Chief of Staff, Headquarters 3 Division, Brigadier General Aminu Gumel, Major General Oyinlola described the sensitisation workshop as both timely and significant. He noted that the lecture provided a valuable platform for officers and soldiers to deepen their understanding of extant Nigerian Army policies and appreciate their implications for effective service delivery. According to the GOC, the programme was designed to enable personnel to understand the rationale behind established policies, clarify areas of uncertainty and promote compliance at all levels of command. He stressed that inadequate knowledge of these policies could negatively impact operational effectiveness and undermine the professional standards expected of Nigerian Army personnel. He added that the sensitisation initiative was aimed at bridging knowledge gaps and strengthening institutional capacity across the Division.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Director of Policy, Army Headquarters Department of Army Policy and Plans, Brigadier General WO Ubi, stated that the sensitization and awareness workshop was carefully conceived to deepen the collective understanding of Nigerian Army policies, their intent and the administrative framework that supports them. He emphasized that these policies form the foundation upon which discipline, accountability and operational effectiveness are built.
Brigadier General Ubi further explained that sound knowledge and proper application of Army policies are essential to ensuring unity of purpose and coherence in planning and execution across all levels of command. He noted that adherence to established policies enhances professionalism, promotes accountability in the discharge of duties and protects personnel and commanders from avoidable operational, legal and reputational risks.
Brigadier General Ubi also commended the GOC, officers and soldiers of 3 Division for their commitment and sacrifices in the execution of assigned operational tasks. He particularly praised the resilience, courage and professionalism consistently demonstrated by personnel of the Division in the discharge of their responsibilities.
The sensitisation lecture was delivered by the Assistant Director Policy, Army Headquarters Department of Army Policy and Plans, Lieutenant Colonel CJ Charles. The lecture was followed by an interactive session during which participants exchanged ideas and sought further clarification on key policy issues.
Highlights of the event included the presentation of souvenirs and a group photograph.
