The Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Management Services), Federal University of Education, Zaria (FUE Zaria), Prof. Kabir Haruna Danja, has urged students of the University to embrace discipline, good character and responsible leadership.

A statement signed by Sani Lawal Maqarphy media aide to the VC said Prof. Danja made the call while representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure, at the 2025/2026 Annual Leadership and Mentorship Workshop organised by the Students’ Representative Council (SRC), themed: “Uniting Students through Effective Leadership and Meaningful Progress,” held at Lecture Theatre II of the University.

Delivering the Vice-Chancellor’s welcome address, Prof. Danja assured students of Management’s commitment to their welfare and the provision of a conducive environment for teaching and learning, and other students’ extracurricular activities.

He said the University would continue to support initiatives that promote responsible leadership, character development and academic excellence among students.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor urged students to shun cultism and other social vices capable of undermining their academic pursuits and future aspirations, stressing that the essence of university education extends beyond the acquisition of certificates to the development of responsible, disciplined and patriotic citizens.

Prof. Danja reminded the students that the Federal University of Education, Zaria, awards its certificates based on both character and learning, urging them to uphold the University’s rules, regulations and core values throughout their stay on campus.

According to him, the University remains committed to producing academically sound, morally upright and globally competitive graduates who will contribute meaningfully to national development.

In his remarks, the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Mal. Abdullahi Abdulkadir, described the workshop as an important platform for nurturing future leaders through mentorship, capacity building and value reorientation.

He encouraged participants to take full advantage of the interactive sessions by engaging resource persons and applying the knowledge and skills acquired to their academic pursuits and leadership responsibilities.

The workshop featured presentations on innovation, advocacy, student-centred governance, collaboration among student leaders, effective communication, emotional intelligence and responsible decision-making.
