Winners of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries for the House of Representatives and Senate in Niger State have been declared.
Chairman of the APC House of Representatives Electoral Committee and Returning Officer, Danlamin Abubakar, declared the winners while announcing the outcome of the primaries held across the federal constituencies and senatorial districts in the state.
According to the results announced, the serving member for the Agaie/Lapai federal constituency, Abdullahi Mahmud, scored 12,806 votes to defeat his closest rival, Sadiq Mustapha, who got 438 votes.
The incumbent for the Suleja/Gurara/Tafa federal constituency, Adamu Tanko, polled 13,976 votes against his closest contender, Arafat Haruna, who secured 1,331 votes.
Ismaila Modibo, who is the incumbent for the Shiroro/Rafi/Munya federal constituency, won against his closest rival, Saidu Umar, who scored 16,044 votes against 1,712.
Similarly, Adamu Abubakar, a brother to the former Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, was victorious for Chanchaga federal constituency with 3,650 votes against his closest contender, Nma Ahmed, who got 1,271 votes.
The serving lawmakers for the Kontagora/Wushishi/Mariga/Mashegu federal constituency, Abdullahi Idris-Garba; that of the Bida/Gbako/Katcha, Saidu Musa Abdullahi, and the Agwara/Borgu federal constituency, Jafaru Mohammed, got return tickets through consensus.
Again, Adamu Usman and Mohammed Yakubu were also announced as consensus candidates for the Lavun/Mokwa/Edati and the Magama/Rijau federal constituencies, respectively.
The returning officer, however, disclosed that the result for the Bosso/Paikoro federal constituency is still being collated.
For the Senate seats, Abubakar declared the incumbent senator for the Niger East senatorial district, Sen. Mohammed Sani Musa, as the consensus candidate, while the serving senator for Niger North, Sen. Abubakar Sani Bello, was unopposed.
Mohammed Sani Idris won the ticket with 68,116 votes, defeating his closest contender, Rabiu Sadiq, who had 4,589 votes.
The returning officer appreciated the state and Farmer Governor Umaru Bago for the support given to the electoral committee to ensure their work was smooth and successful.
He attributed the delay in announcing the results to late collation as a result of the large size of the state.
In his remarks, farmer Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago congratulated the APC candidates and urged them to be magnanimous in victory and extend hands of fellowship to those that contested against them or stepped down for them.
He stressed the importance of teamwork, saying it would make the party stronger and successful in the general elections.
The farmer governor thanked the APC electoral committee and other APC stakeholders in the state for partnering to ensure a successful process
He assured them of his continued support to sustain the successes in the remaining primaries.
The farmer governor also appreciated those who embraced consensus, noting that it made the work easier for the electoral committee.
