* VC Seeks University Expansion, Extols Speaker Abbas for Support on Additional Land
The Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education (FUE), Zaria, Prof. Yahaya Isa Bunkure, led the University Management on a courtesy visit to the Emir of Zazzau, Amb. Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, CFR, at his Palace.
This was contained in a statement signed by Sani Lawal maqarphy media aide to the VC made available to newsmen.
Introducing members of the delegation, the Vice-Chancellor informed the Emir that the visit was primarily to express the University’s gratitude to His Royal Highness for attending and honouring the reopening ceremony of the University Central Mosque held on 8th May, 2026.
Prof. Bunkure also used the opportunity to appreciate the Emir for his continued support and goodwill towards the University, noting that FUE Zaria has continued to enjoy a cordial and productive relationship with the Zazzau Emirate.
The Vice-Chancellor further informed the Emir of some of the challenges confronting the University, particularly the issue of infrastructure deficit arising from the institution’s expansion and transition into a full-fledged university. He explained that the increasing population and evolving status of the institution have placed considerable pressure on existing facilities and limited available space for future development.
Speaking further, Prof. Bunkure appealed for support towards the expansion of the University’s land area to facilitate future infrastructural projects. He recalled that the Honourable Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, had earlier expressed commitment to advancing teacher education and pledged support toward securing additional land for the University’s annex.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that discussions initiated by the Speaker had progressed significantly, particularly on collaboration between the Federal University of Education (FUE), Zaria and the Federal College of Education to strengthen educational development initiatives in Zaria, Kaduna State, and Nigeria at large.
Prof. Bunkure also reminded the Emir of the request earlier made during the reopening of the University Central Mosque regarding the establishment of an Islamic Centre within the Mosque, as he further congratulated His Royal Highness on his recent conferment of a Fellowship by Kaduna Polytechnic during its 70th Anniversary and Combined Convocation Ceremony.
Responding, the Emir of Zazzau, Amb. Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, appreciated the University Management for the visit and commended the institution’s leadership for its developmental efforts. He acknowledged the University’s infrastructure challenges and expressed support for initiatives aimed at expanding and strengthening the institution.
The Emir further stated that he shared similar sentiments with the Speaker regarding the establishment of the new Federal College of Education to complement the Federal University of Education, Zaria, in addressing the growing educational needs of Zaria and the nation at large. He assured the University of the Zazzau Emirate’s continued support and cooperation.
