The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, Nigerian Army (NA), Major General Chinedu Ralph Nnebeife, has restated the commitment of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, to the welfare of troops and their families.
A statement signed by Lieutenant Colonel Danjuma Jonah Danjuma acting deputy director army public relations,2 division Nigerian army said he made this known on 16 June 2026, at the commissioning of landmark projects at Letmauk Cantonment, Mokola, Ibadan, Oyo State.
He stated that the welfare of personnel and provision of a conducive working and living environment remain top priorities. He noted that the projects aligns with the COAS’s Command Philosophy, which emphasizes sound administration as a cardinal pillar and places a high premium on troops welfare through the “Soldier First Culture.” He added that enabling infrastructure boosts morale, efficiency, and overall operational effectiveness.
Major General Nnebeife commended the Commanding Officer (CO), 81 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Emmanuel Agaku, for his vision and commitment to the successful execution of the projects.
Earlier, the Commanding Officer, 81 Battalion, Lt Col Emmanuel Agaku said that upon assuming command on 7 February 2025, he undertook a review of the barracks’ infrastructure and welfare needs. He explained that the need to upgrade critical facilities informed efforts to create a more conducive environment for personnel and their families.
He noted that the initiative was guided by the COAS Command Philosophy, prioritising sound administration and troop welfare as key enablers of operational success. He added that the renovations transformed dilapidated structures into modern and functional facilities, improving morale and working conditions.
He expressed gratitude as he handed over command, noting that despite challenges, significant progress was made in improving administrative efficiency and welfare in Letmauk Barracks. He thanked the COAS for the opportunity to have commanded 81 Battalion under the mentorship of the GOC.
The projects inaugurated included a remodeled and renovated Battalion Headquarters Complex and the Chief Hunters House, which was given a comprehensive facelift.
