The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division Nigerian Army and Commander Sector 1 Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI, Brigadier General Solomon Diwa, on 2 June 2026 paid courtesy visits to the Shehu of Borno, His Royal Highness Alhaji Dr Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin, CFR, and the Borno State Command of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Maiduguri, Borno State, as part of efforts to strengthen strategic partnerships in the pursuit of lasting peace and security in the North East.

It said during his visit to the Shehu of Borno, Brigadier General Diwa stated that the visit was meant to pay homage and seek the royal blessings of the revered monarch following his assumption of duty as the 16th GOC 7 Division 7 Division Nigerian Army.
He expressed appreciation for the warm reception accorded him and reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to working closely with traditional institutions in addressing security challenges at the grassroots level.
The GOC emphasized that traditional rulers remain critical stakeholders in the nation’s security architecture, noting that their support and cooperation are indispensable to ongoing efforts aimed at restoring and sustaining peace across the region.
In his response, the Shehu of Borno highlighted the historical significance of Maiduguri and reflected on the emergence of the Boko Haram insurgency. He commended the Nigerian Army for its resilience, sacrifices, and sustained operations that have significantly improved security and restored normalcy in many parts of Borno State. The monarch also appreciated the cordial relationship between the military and the people of the state.
The Shehu, alongside the 16 District Heads of the Borno Emirate, offered royal blessings and prayers for Brigadier General Diwa, wishing him a successful and impactful tour of duty as the GOC 7 Division and Commander Sector 1 Operation HADIN KAI.
Similarly, Brigadier General Diwa visited the Department of State Services (DSS), Borno State Command, where he was received by the State Director of Security, Mr Adamu Ahmed Umar.
During the visit, the GOC underscored the indispensable role of the DSS in national security, particularly in intelligence gathering and information sharing.
He assured the Service of the Nigerian Army’s commitment to sustaining effective collaboration, maintaining open channels of communication, and strengthening intelligence driven operations aimed at proactively addressing emerging security threats within the North East region.
In his remarks, the State Director of Security, Mr Adamu Ahmed Umar, FSI, congratulated Brigadier General Diwa on his appointment and assumption of duty as the GOC 7 Division.
He commended the Nigerian Army for its sustained efforts in combating insurgency and restoring peace in the North East. He further highlighted the contributions of the DSS to counter-terrorism operations through intelligence gathering, surveillance, intelligence sharing, profiling of terrorist kingpins, and other critical security responsibilities.
The visits culminated in interactive sessions, exchange of souvenirs, and group photographs, further reinforcing the commitment of the Nigerian Army, traditional institutions, and sister security agencies to strengthening collaboration in the promotion of enduring peace, security, and stability in Borno State and the North East region at large.
