… Commends Troops on Resilience, Dedication
The Executive Governor of Adamawa State, Rt Hon (Dr) Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has declared open the 3 Division Inter Brigade Corporal and Below Competition 2026 (3 Div IBCBC 2026) .
A statement signed by Captain Olusegun Abidoye, acting assistant director army public relations, sector 4 operation hadin Kai/ 23 Brigade Nigerian army said the governor flagged off the event during the opening ceremony of the one week competition held at the 232 Battalion’s Parade Ground, Gibson Jalo Cantonment Yola on Monday 13 April 2026.
The governor, who was represented at the event by the Head of Service Adamawa State, Pharmacist Shehu Ardo commended the troops for their resilience and dedication to making the state more secured, saying the government and good people of Adamawa State are grateful for the sacrifices and untiring commitments of the troops towards the well being of the people of the state.
Rt Hon Fintiri charged the participants to compete with pride, determination and the spirit of true soldering, emphasizing that the competition is more than a test of physical endurance but a powerful affirmation of the qualities that make the participants exceptional soldiers.
In his remarks, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) , 3 Division Nigerian Army/ Commander Operation ENDURING PEACE (GOC/COEP) Major General Eyitayo Oyinlola represented by the 3 Division Training Officer, Brigadier General Nicodemus Awobi emphasised that the competition is in tandem with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Command Philosophy which is “To Advance the Transformation of the Nigerian Army into a More Professional, Adaptable, Combat Ready and Resilient Force Capable of Decisively Discharging its Constitutional Responsibilities Within a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment”.
He explained that the competition is not merely about showcasing an individual’s ability but a critical demonstration of the collective commitment to operational readiness and combat effectiveness as the Nigerian Army upscales its training thrust.
Major General Oyinlola further encouraged the participants to be good examples and standard bearers for the younger ones by being committed to physical and mental toughness.
The GOC/COEP called on the umpires and observers to carry out their duties diligently with a view to bringing out lessons that would improve subsequent competitions.
In his welcome address, the Acting Commander Sector 4 Operation Hadin Kai/ Commander 23 Brigade ( Ag Comd Sect 4 OPHK/Comd 23 Bde) Brigadier General Amechi Agwu said the competition is of paramount importance to the operational readiness of the troops of the Nigerian Army.
The Ag Comd Sect 4 OPHK/Comd 23 Bde represented by the Ag Chief of Staff, Lieutenant Colonel Ephraim Inengim further stated that the competition is timely as 23 Brigade and other participating formations continue to place high value on training of personnel to ensure their readiness to discharge assigned duties in line with global best practices.
Brigadier General Agwu used the occasion to express his sincere gratitude to the COAS for his continuous support to the Brigade and efforts toward improving troops efficiency through various training activities.
The 3 Division Inter -Brigade Corporal and Below Competition is an annual event of the Nigerian Army aimed at improving leadership qualities, physical fitness, organisational abilities and level of initiative among soldiers of the rank of Corporal and below.
This year’s event is hosted by 23 Brigade Nigerian Army and is expected to come to an end on Friday 17 April 2026.
